For Robins escape pod and other DSEV spaceships I was tasked to create a set of textures. Our goal was go towards classic spaceshuttle materials, as seen on the Endeavour Spaceshuttle for example. The whole set consisted of this flexible insulation fabric & some heatshield tiles
The insulation fabric substance is mainly driven by a greyscale mask and seperate masks for text placement and circle elements. With that aproach it is still fairly easy to input procedural patterns & also allow input for user created custom masks. All other effects, like cushion pattern, folds, damage, sews are procedural and adjustable to allow a high degree of flexibility.
Unfortunately it was decided that using the fabric will give our spaceships a too retro look, thus the substance was removed from robins rescue pod.
